Adé - Reach Out Your Love 1993

Profile Records PROFCD 402

A promo CD release that got a blinding review from Steve Hobbs in Blues & Soul magazine. His word was gospel as far as I was concerned and therefore, I was very pleased to find a copy. No packaging at all though so I've found some art which seems to suggest that it got an official release.

Engineered by Mike Bigwood at Eden Studios, this is Reach Out Your Love, written by A. Adefolalu (my money's on the artist) and performed by Adé, a man gifted with a voice that most can only wish for. It's criminal to find that he's only recorded a few songs of his own and none of them have recieved any exposure at all. Even more surprising is the news that he is probably more widely known for his vocal contribution on a couple of Shut Up & Dance album tracks?

A couple of good versions on here but forget the house mixes, the R&B 'Touch Da Soul' Mix is the only one you need really. The Adécapella is a joy to hear though?

The Underground Crew - Feel The Melody 1990

Clubhouse Records CHR 104

Novelty value I guess but I love it. This one from Da Posse, K. Fingers & Hula (Craig Simpkins and Lamar Mahone to their Mums), will have your neighbours convinced you are The Stud, the Missus beating you with a big stick and the kids thinking you're a perv. It's worth it though. Feel The Melody and Orgasm are slow starters that then turn into four on the floor house'rs, tink Lil Louis 'French Kiss' with a filthy mouth and a girlfriend called Lassie. Feel The Melody (Slow Mix) is the way to go (Pinky solo), Slow Mix if you fancy menage a trois. Nasty Mix is absolute garbage but then one of them had to be?

Despite appearances, this is 5 versions of the same song. It's a nice bit of music with an excited female groaning over it and a guy talking dirty to her. Apologies for the crackles and grind but it's a poor pressing with limited availability. Funny enough, the run out is inscribed "Session Masters MJR", someone was obviously having a laugh. I took it back and was offered my cash back but chose to keep the platter with first dibs on the next one in. The shop no longer exists but I'm still first on the list.

Keni Stevens - Living On The Edge 1989

Debut Records dblp 505

Not to keen on te title track but its not a bad album. Better production than the 'Blue Moods' album despite the lack of names involved. Sheila Ferguson gets a shout out and Mike Stevens is, I believe, Keni's brother but I'm not sure whether I read that or we talked about it back in the day. Those credits are soooo, so tiny?

Leroy Hutson - Shades Of Love E.P. 1992

Expansion Records EXPAND 24

An interesting release on Expansion Records from Mr Hutson. I guess Leroy had love on his mind. I must admit, sad bugger that I am, I prefer The Look Of Love by Dusty Springfield but Leroy is in fine fettle on these Love linked recordings. Nice Sax by Kenny Anderson on the instrumental, don't make the mistake of ignoring it.

Keni Stevens - Blue Moods 1987

Jam Today KENI LP1

This 1987 set from Keni Stevens bears the name of Andy Sojka on production, Bluey Maunick on guitar and Beverly Skeete on background vocals. Every track is top drawer Quiet Storm (despite the karaoke style vocal over lift muzak track). If you like soul music then this album is a MUST!
